ABOUT DIANE RABON
Diane Rabon was born on October 18, 1939, in San Antonio and grew up in Luling, graduating from Luling High School. She was very active in school activities and was a Watermelon Thump Queen. After high school Diane attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated from Southwest Texas with Bachelor's and Master's degrees. She taught in Victoria, Houston, Denton, and Dallas. Due to physical limitations, Diane retired from teaching in 1976.
Diane's friends admired her humor, keen wit, and intelligence, and they never tired of hearing her stories about her life and experiences. She traveled extensively in her early years, and had a wide-ranging appreciation of arts and culture. She loved music and musical theater. She could sing, dance, and act, and she played the piano and guitar. She enjoyed reading—especially mysteries—and flower gardening. Diane was also down-to-earth and athletic, and there seemed to be nothing that she couldn't do. She was an impressive fencer, skier, and swimmer. A bona fide cowgirl, she was as comfortable in boots and chaps, with a rope in her hand, as many people are in their favorite pajamas. She was an avid University of Texas Longhorn fan.
Diane loved animals and had often talked of establishing a fund for homeless pets. At the time of her death in 2007, she shared her home with three beloved cats—Beau, Fanny, and Rusty.
